The Appeal of Principle Resume

The Appeal of Principle Resume Why Almost Everything Youve Learned About Principle Resume Is Wrong Coordinate scheduling, track learning targets, and guarantee that school goals are satisfied throughout the board. Discipline is a significant portion of school administration. Keep in mind, the target is to remain concise and focused, which means you could keep attention of the hiring manager. A Secret Weapon for Principle Resume Showing some interests and activities outside your work experience could really provide you with a leg up over the remaining part of the candidates. Its mucksmuschenstill important to get them listed, however, as it shows he is also a talented educator with a lot of experience in the classroom. No students were actually hired, obviously, but their private information was provided voluntarily. In addition, the interviewer might notlage have the expertise in some regions to answer your questions or provide you more info. Details of Principle Resume One of the simplest approaches to learn about Pascals principle is using a U-shaped tube full of water. It is not only helpful for lifting heavy objects. Nowadays the AIDA principle isnt employed as an exclusive marketing and advertising approach but its still an important portion of advertising. The principle of common region is extraordinarily associated with proximity. Sooner or later, remember there are no hard, unbreakable rules regarding resume length. In the long run, you are going to have complete comprehension of each individual part of the issue. Whatever situation youve gotten yourself into, you can most likely get yourself out of. The point is, theres no ideal length of a resume for everybody. In addition, you have to make sure that the methods discussed to boost discipline are in reality followed and effective. The aforementioned management procedure is an extremely extensive description of what a manager should use as a way to manage. Therefore, if you pr ess down with a little force on a piston with a little area, there has to be a big force acting on the bigger area piston to keep the pressure the exact same. By way of example, operating systems are developed with various roles (and, needless to say, privileges), which are made for different user profiles, dependent on their activities and duties. Some of the greatest leadership comes from everyday abrollcontainer-transportsystem from those on the front line of their various teams. If you realize the way the human mind works, its simpler to direct peoples attention to the correct spot. Furthermore, a personalized approach tends to draw in more attention from individuals. You may also add a quick collection of the most impressive things you accomplished throughout that moment. The Debate Over Principle Resume The font you select for your resume plays an important part in what the reader will think about you. Utilizing bullet points is a great approach to spell out your acc omplishments and success stories from prior positions. If thats the case, your prior experience is not so relevant to a brand-new job you applied for. Nobody is interested in the particulars of your experience from 20 years back. Executives are busy folks. Resumes are the same. Creative careers also may have a huge collection of references or a huge portfolio. Three or four distinct jobs can be placed onto a single page. Review our Principal resume sample as frequently as you like to make certain you have all the bases covered. After her experience for a principal is her previous teaching experience. As a Principal, its possible to not have too much experience. Its possible to still get hired as a Principal if you pay attention to your abilities and transferable experience. Principal also has an alternate meaning for a noun. General Project Management Principles that are applicable to all projects Change is inevitable and the undertaking cannot be isolated from the cha nge an organization can go because of external atmosphere. So now its the duty of the client whos consuming the customer object to determine which Logger class to inject. An advertisement must grab the eye of a prospective customer. The Profitability Framework The most frequent instance of MECE thinking-in-action is called the profitability framework.

11 Things You Should Assess in Every Cover Letter You Read

11 Things You Should Assess in Every Cover Letter You Read 11 Things You Should Assess in Every Cover Letter You Read Welcome to Recruiter QA, where we pose employment-related questions to the experts and share their answers Have a question youd like to ask? Leave it in the comments, and you might just see it in the next installment of Recruiter QATodays Question Weve written before about what employees should include in their titelseite letters, but today, we want to approach it from a new angle How should hiring managers assess cover letters? What signs should they look for that a candidate is worth an einstellungsgesprch?1. Make Sure Its Not Too DenseMy No. 1 pet peeve on cover letters is vertically dense pages with information dating back to the candidates first award in elementary school. It takes 40 minutes to read through. I dont really have that much time to read through this, and I dont really want to. - Pierre Tremblay, Dupray2. Look for Personality, Promise, and ProofLo ok for personality, promise, and proof. Any candidate that can break free of the I am writing to apply for mold, clearly articulate how theyd solve your problem, and provide evidence from their past that proves their abilities is well worth your time. Why? Because the message reflects genuine interest. This candidate is leid just shooting from the hip. Theyre invested in the opportunity theyve done their research. Most importantly, theyve already visualized how they can create success for your team. - Erica Breuer, Cake Resumes 3. Is It Addressed to a Specific Person? One of the biggest signs a candidate is worth interviewing is if they addressed their cover letter. This should be addressed to a specific contact name.- Dana Case, MyCorporation.com 4. How Proactive Is the Candidate? Most applicants simply summarize their resumes in their cover letters. However, proactive individuals look for opportunities to provide value to a business before they have even been offered a job. One si gn a candidate is worth interviewing is if they offer specific advice in their cover letter for how the business could improve and ways they could help. This not only shows they have researched the company, but also demonstrates their ability to take initiative and generate new ideas.- Bill Battey, Mindyra 5. Check for Core ValuesI recommend hiring managers look for signs of a potential employees core values when assessing a cover letter. Employees can acquire new skills, grow in knowledge, and experience shifts in life circumstances, but core values never change which is why the fruchtwein toxic and irreconcilable form of misalignment between a company and an employee occurs when the values of the organization and the individual are opposed. - Chanel Dokun, LifePlan NYC 6. Do They Have Communication Skills?A cover letter establishes an applicants most fundamental formal writing skills. Writing a basic, single-page letter shouldnt be that difficult, and if an employee has a hard t ime communicating here, theyll certainly have trouble communicating in high pressure conditions, regardless of the position. - Adam Hatch, ResumeGenius.com 7. Does the Candidate Have a Track Record of Achievements?Great achievements dont necessarily need to be work-related to indicate success. Case in point Athletic achievements show the candidate is competitive and can work on a team leadership achievements show an ability to support and motivate others being part of a college Greek organization or social club demonstrates interpersonal skills volunteering shows the candidate can work with others toward common goals. A consistent track record of achievements is one of the best indicators of success in a new job. - Jordan Wan, CloserIQ 8. Customization Is KeyIs the letter generic (sent to all potential employers) with no specifics about the job, company, or how the candidate would be an asset? If it appears to be generic, the candidate has questionable investment in your company. They are just looking to get a job and sending out mass applications. - Laura MacLeod, From the Inside Out Project (Photo credit Joe Henson)9. Does the Candidate Get Your Culture? Before you assess your applicants cover letter, think about your company culture. Is it happy and light-hearted? Formal and businesslike? Identify the voice of your company, and then read the cover letter with that in mind. Ideally, it should read like it was written by someone who gets the company culture, because that means either the writer is a natural fit for the position, or they did their homework by assessing your companys website and other brand touchstones and then bothered to fit the letter not just to the position, but to your brand as well. - Rebecca West, Rebecca West Interiors 10. Grammar Indicates AttentivenessHiring managers should look closely for any grammatical errors because they speak volumes about a candidates attention to detail. I once received a cover letter from an applicant wh o claimed to have gone to a prestigious collage. I was not impressed - Timothy Wiedman, Retired Associate Professor of Management and Human Resources9. Does the Candidate Show Passion? The most important sign to look for in a cover letter is passion for the industry and for the role. Passion is the No. 1 indicator of strong work ethic and career longevity. Passion can be identified in two ways. First, look for signs of conscious, smart choices in the applicants career story. Second, look for signs of community involvement that tie to the candidates career. - Kelvin Jiang, Buyside Focus

How Setting Boundaries at Work Can Help You Unplug -The Muse

How Setting Boundaries at Work Can Help You Unplug -The Muse How Setting Boundaries at Work Can Help You Unplug For you, a standard workday just isn’t enough. Your boss depends on you to be available day and night, and you often bring work home on the weekends. Your colleagues and clients rely on you so much that you plan to be on call during your upcoming vacation, despite your desperate need to unplug. And maybe you’ve been asked to fly across the country on a few days’ notice so many times that you don’t even bother unpacking your suitcase anymore. While these constant demands on your time and attention may feel like an indication of career success, they can also seriously tax your energy and focus. Agreeing to everything a boss, client, or co-worker asks you to do can quickly thrust you into the role of office pushover and leave you feeling like you’ve lost control of your own time and career goals. The key to staying sane while succeeding at work is to set firm, self-respecting boundaries that help you make smart decisions about how you spend your time and energy. By taking the following steps to define your boundaries, assert them cooperatively, and stick to them, others will eventually do the same. Guard Your Time If you’re feeling stretched thin, it’s likely because you’ve overcommitted to too many priorities, projects, and people. To regain focus and control, you need to examine both your behaviors and the habits of the people you work with. You need to set boundaries so you can unplug. First, look inward. Instead of letting stress or a desire for approval influence you to immediately agree to every request, pause before you respond. Take a moment to evaluate the individual demand and its potential effect on your schedule, well-being, and goals. For conditioned people-pleasers, this can be a challenge, but eventually, it will help you get comfortable with pushing back on demands that don’t benefit you, so you can reserve your time for what’s truly important. Then, focus on your co-workers’ habits. To curb the assumption that you’ll agree to anything you’re asked to do, start responding to those requests with, “Let me check my calendar and get back to you.” This serves two purposes: First, you can actually look at your upcoming schedule and prioritize what’s already on your calendar. Second, it sets the expectation with your colleagues that you’re not going to jump on every request right away- or at all. Defining boundaries is also essential to making space for your personal goals. For example, if you’re training for a half marathon and have a long run scheduled for 6 PM, tell your client that a 5:30 PM meeting doesn’t work for your schedule and offer to send some availability for later in the week. By closely guarding your time, you’ll be able to elevate your own priorities, both at work and in your personal life. Unplug to Reenergize Achieving work-life balance in today’s always-on work culture can seem impossible. Checking email is often the first thing we do in the morning, and our constant accessibility doesn’t end until we send just one last email before bed. But never disconnecting from your devices or work is a surefire path to burnout. To set healthy boundaries, you have to closely examine your technology and work communication habits and behaviors. Ask yourself: What’s driving you to stay connected? Are you afraid of dropping the ball and letting your team down? Are you trying to prove to yourself (and everyone else) that you’re uber productive? Once you understand those underlying motivations, you can determine appropriate tech-related boundaries. For example, maybe you can let your colleagues know exactly when they can- and cannot- expect to reach you during the evenings (e.g., “I’ll be logged on at home until 7 PM, but then I’ll be out of pocket”). Or maybe, you commit to checking email once only each evening and weekend day. By appropriately limiting your availability, you can continue to support your co-workers’ needs, while also maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Look for Win-Win Situations No one likes to hear “no”- especially if they’re used to hearing “yes.” If you’re worried about how your boundary-setting will go over with your team, re-position your refusal as an opportunity to find a solution that will honor both your time and the company’s needs. Simply look for ways to compromise. For example, if your boss asks you to work over the weekend, let him or her know that you have prior commitments over those days, but suggest setting aside some time to review the project Monday morning. That will help him or her feel comfortable with the end deliverable and shows that you’re a team player- while still preserving your personal time. Work According to Process, Systems, and Contracts If your colleagues and clients have a hard time respecting your newly established boundaries, don’t be afraid to fall back on external policies and procedures for help. With clients, for instance, you can often leverage your existing contract. For example, if the scope of a project is growing out of control, you could say something like, “It’s no problem for me to pull together a new 90-day plan to accommodate these changes. I’ll add that into the contract. The additional charge will be $500.” Or, if you’re constantly being asked to work insane hours or perform tasks that are far above your pay grade, ask for a review of your job duties and compensation. Come to the table with evidence of the extra responsibilities you’ve assumed, along with your track record of successes. With that documentation on your side, you’ll have a much better chance of establishing some more realistic expectations for your role- or majorly boosting your salary and value. Setting self-respecting boundaries will help you achieve a more balanced work and personal life, which will boost your emotional wellness across the board and serve you well in the long run. 8 things youre spending too much money on and how to stop

8 things you're spending too much money on â€" and how to stop 8 things you're spending too much money on - and how to stop Sometimes financial stability takes a little bit of discipline. It can mean taking a look at all of our spending habits - big and small - and cutting out some non-essentials to be sure we can make it to our major financial goals. There’s a handful of things we all spend too much on, but a few painless tweaks can add up to major savings!1. CoffeeCoffee tops the list because, with a bunch of alternatives to this habit, it’s one of the easiest cuts to make.   If you’re the gal who rolls out to the Bux for a daily 3 pm fix, that can really add up! (Quick math - Our $5-a-day coffee habit can add up to $1,200 a year if we’re doing it every workday. At that amount, you’re well into fancy handbag territory - and wouldn’t we much rather be saving our money in that direction?)The FixWith a pretty minimal investment, it can feel like you have a  barista right in your own kitchen. Pop your morning brew in a reusable cute mug and you get bonus points for being a little greener. Ma ke note of the when and why you end up going  out for big ticket coffee purchases. We all need an afternoon break, but sometimes just a quick walk around the block can be an equally refreshing (and free!) pick-me-up.2. Gym membershipsGym memberships can be a solid investment if you truly are using them regularly and you’ve found a workout program that you stick with. If you’re ready to shop around for a new gym, there are a few ways you can save, like joining in a group or taking advantage of student discounts. The FixThis is a different number for everyone, but do the math of dividing your monthly fee into the number of times you actually go to the gym to get your “per workout” expense. If this makes you faint, the way I do when I see the price of a Soul Cycle class, then consider taking your workout routine  home to the living room  or outdoors.3. Work lunches“Treat ourselves Fridays” often turn into “I- was-too-busy-to-meal-prep Mondays,” leaving us stacking multip le work days back to back where we’re forced to buy our lunches. In many cities, this can easily be a $10 outlay, and doing it on the daily is an expensive habit to get into. The FixSave lunches out for a truly special occasion and schedule it with your work crew to make it something to look forward to. Resources abound for  healthy lunches we can make ourselves,  so our wallets and our waistlines will thank us if we can reign this one in!4. Late feesThis expense is worth getting under control ASAP because sneaky late fees not only rack up quickly, but also aren’t  great for our credit. If you’re routinely having this happen, it may be time to  revisit your home budget, but if it’s just a lack of planning, there are a few quick fixes. The FixPut as many of your bills as possible on auto pay - either through the service provider or your own bank. If that’s not possible, be diligent about setting payment reminders and alerts on your phone a few days before anything is due. An d did you know a lot of places will let you change your recurring bill due date? If, for example, it’s easier for you to pay a hefty bill at the end of the month versus the beginning, consider calling up the vendor and discussing your payment timing options.5. Brand name household itemsIn my dream home, my laundry room is filled with baskets of The Laundress and there’s a boujee hand soap in every bathroom. In reality, a lot of times we’re spending  way too much on name brand household cleaners or basics where a store brand alternative would suffice. Many store-labeled products in this category  perform about as well  as their famously named counterparts, so this is an easy way to trim expenses. The FixWe all know that big box purchases and online retailers often sell this stuff cheaper in bulk with recurring subscription orders. Make yourself more satisfied with these basics by decanting them into cuter bottles, and you won’t even miss the fancier stuff.6. Drinking outIf gra bbing a cocktail with friends has become your regular bonding ritual, the tab can add up quickly! About  51% of us  cop to heading to the bar at least once weekly - and we’re often tacking on a dinner out after that, making for a pricey evening. The FixPregame at home whenever possible and learn  how to stock your home bar. Oftentimes our plans involve “dinner and drinks,” and, let’s face it, that’s almost like ending up with  two  dinner bills at the end of the night if we’re stopping off multiple places. Building out a cute home bar will make you excited to entertain at home and save some cash.7. Trendy clothesWe all want our wardrobes to feel fresh and current every season. This can, unfortunately, trick us into dropping a lot of money at fast fashion retailers and sometimes result in a closet full of clothes that either won’t last or won’t look quite right in another year. The FixLimiting ourselves to just a couple of trend pieces per season ensures we’re set up for a timeless wardrobe with quality pieces. Quality classics can come at a variety of price points, so this doesn’t necessarily mean you need to spend like crazy on clothes. It just means we all know that in a couple of years we won’t need an entire closet of bell-sleeved sweaters.8. TransportationExtra transport expenses are slipping into our lives more quickly than ever! Many of us have passed on having a car, but adding up ride shares and public transit can often equate to the fixed expense of owning a car.The FixFor most of us, grabbing an Uber when we could just designate a driver or even take a longer walk is a major culprit of overspending in this category.  Committing to a primary mode of transportation - either your own car or public transit - will help shave off unnecessary expenses. (And if I were the responsible gal I really wanted to be, a chic travel umbrella would keep me from shelling out for a $10 cab every time it rains.)This article was originally publish ed TheEverygirl.com.

Career Resurrection How to Identify Top Candidates from Declining Fields

Career Resurrection How to Identify Top Candidates from Declining Fields Career Resurrection How to Identify Top Candidates from Declining Fields Postal service, data entry, textiles, semiconductors, journalism, farming- these are just a few of the occupational fields that are declining, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Whether it’s because of increased automation, offshore outsourcing or shifting consumer behaviors, many competent workers have found themselves in the unfortunate situation of being out of a job for reasons beyond their control. These candidates from declining fields could be untapped sources of talent for your organization. When reviewing applicants from declining fields, consider these factors. Attitude Losing a job to a plant closure or outsourcing is a big blow. It’s normal for anyone to experience some anger or bitterness. Having to find a new career is scary, but being adaptable means converting challenges into opportunities. When interviewing downsized candidates, listen closely to the story they tell. Be on the lookout for candidates who go into victim mode. For example, if a longtime factory worker whose plant closed tells you, “Well that’s just the way things are now. Everything’s made overseas. Im the last of a dying breed,” they might be resistant to retraining and infuse your workplace with a negative attitude. A comment like I liked what I did, but now it’s time for me to learn something new. The world is changing,” indicates a more positive outlook. Trainability Many candidates who have been in a career for years don’t know exactly what they want to do next. Those with a positive outlook will embrace the opportunity to attempt something new and do something about it. They may enroll in local job training programs, volunteer or take community college classes. In the interview, look for evidence of effort in the direction of a new career. If you’ve been overlooking candidates from declining fields in search of that perfect fit, but have noticed a significant number of applicants from one specific field, take a look at O*Net’s job summaries to look for transferrable skills. O*NET lists the tools and technology, knowledge, skills, abilities and work activities for each job, and could reveal hidden opportunities with candidates from other fields. For example, the skills required by a farm worker include active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving and judgment and decision making.” Those skills combined with abilities that include “control precision,” “static strength” and multi-limb coordination” suggest that a career in construction- for which the outlook is bright, according to O*NET- could be a good fit. All it takes is the candidates willingness to learn the tools and technology of a new trade. In addition to evidence of enthusiasm, probe for how they learn. An interview question like, “Tell me about a time when you had to learn something new and you didn’t like it at first,” can give you an indication of how adaptable they are. While its very common to experience initial resistance to new processes and procedures, many people grow to like a new way of working once they get used to it. Loyalty   Being the last person standing in a shrinking field could be interpreted as lack of ambition, but it could also be viewed as loyalty. Whether a candidate has been working in a dying field for five or 25 years, you’ll have evidence of their work history. Job-hopping is on the rise, so those who have managed to stay in one field show a dedication to work that is in increasingly short supply. Probe for information about their work history and the reasons behind previous job changes. For some people, job stability is more important than career growth. For them, the right opportunity in a new field for which they have appropriate transferrable skills could be a stroke of luck. For you, it could result in one less position to fill two years down the road. And for those focused on career growth, the new opportunity could lead to a promotion two years from now and a new opening for you to fill. Take a good look at those whose jobs been downsized, outsourced or made obsolete. Candidates who have a positive attitude, willingness to learn and a history of job loyalty could be your next star employees. Over the next several months we’ll be sharing best learnings and best practices on how to adapt and thrive in this new era of changing careers. It’s why you are here and what will bring you joy.Dan Sullivan, the founder of Strategic Coach, has a simple 4-question exercise that: Gives you a sense of joy and pride for what you’ve accomplished Confidence about what you’re currently focusing on Excitement about what your future holds Clarity about the few things that really matter Here are the 4 questions, and how you can use  them:Last 90  Days“Winning Achievements?  Looking back over the past quarter, what are the things that make you the proudest about what you have achieved?” - Dan SullivanTake 2 minutes and write down all of the things that have happened in your life over the past 90 days. What are the personal and professional goals you’ve accomplished? It’s crazy, but if you take a few minutes to simply reflect on what has happened in your life, you’ll realize that far more has happened than you remember. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day.It’s easy to be focused on the here and now.But taking just 2 minutes to reflect on the past 90 days will blow your mind by all that has happened.Even more, when you get better at structuring your time and focusing on only those things which matter to you, you will get better at accomplishing HUGE goals every 90 days.90-day goal cycles are perfect for making huge progress and then reflecting on w hat you did, and then making better plans for the following 90 days. You can get to the point where every 90 days you’re achieving more than most people achieve in a year. Or 5 years.Right now“What’s Hot?  When you look at everything that’s going on today, which areas of focus and progress are making you the most confident?” - Dan SullivanConfidence is a byproduct of having a life you’re proud of and excited about.Take 2 minutes and make a list of the things in your life that give you confidence about what you’re doing right now.Don’t filter or edit yourself. If you’re continuously moving forward in your life, then the things you’re focused on RIGHT NOW should be quite different from the things you were focused on 3â€"6 months ago.You should have made some huge progress in the past 90 days, which opened up new doors.Every 90 days, you could be focusing on bigger and more interesting projects.Your life can continuously look different and better.Your workouts could be different and more powerful.Your health and fitness could be better - allowing you to feel better and have more energy. You could be making more money. You could have deeper and more profound connections and relationships. These things give you a sense of confidence because you can see by your current reality that you’ve made progress. Indeed, without progress, you can’t have confidence. But if you’re continually stretching and creating a bigger and better future, then you’ll be in a constant space of growth. If you’re growing and stretching, then your life will continue to get better.Your present reality will look quite different every 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. The quality of your life and your time will be different. The quality of your thoughts and habits will be better. You’ll be able to look at your current life, work, projects, health, income, routines, relationships, emotions and feel a huge sense of accomplishment. You can feel confident by the life you have. This confid ence, coupled with the increased sense of morale you’ll have gained by reflecting on the achievements of the prior 90 days will be a huge boost. You’ll begin feeling amazing.Next 90  days“Bigger and Better? The MBA Hiring Climate According to Recruiters

The MBA Hiring Climate According to Recruiters The MBA Hiring Climate According to Recruiters The GMAC corporate recruiter survey is out. What did the recruiters say about the MBA hiring climate? Looks pretty good! In the Asia Pacific, even better. In general, more companies are planning to hire MBAs this year than last, and MBA starting salaries are expected to increase overall, though half of companies expect no change.Heres a roundup of some of the reports more interesting finds. The traits and skills of in-demand MBAsAll the talk of late wanting the managers of today and tomorrow to embody leaders who are creative, innovative and socially intelligent seems to have been missed by many recruiters. The traits recruiters say they are looking for in MBA grads are initiative, professionalism, motivation and integrity, ability to deal with pressure/obstacles and goal orientation. Fewer than half say they desire MBAs who can listen, be persuasive or culturally sensitive, are tactful, can delegate well, or are empathetic.Given that, communications skills are, somewhat contradictoril y, by far the most desirable skill recruiters look for (Does that mean they know they should be looking for strong communication skills, but just dont know what that entails?).Regarding technical/quantitative skills and a proven ability to perform, companies in the U.S., more than European or Asian companies, seek these things.Getting good grades was only considered desirable by 45 percent of recruiters. Even less valued prior work experience in similar or occupations or industries. What recruiters find important in a school One of the more interesting things to come out of the recruiter survey is how much heed recruiters continue to pay to the much-loathed and ravenously-observed MBA rankings when choosing which schools to recruit at. The rankings are becoming an increasingly important criterion to recruitersalmost as important as their existing school relationships, their prior experiences with the school, and the quality of the students.John Byrne offers one possible explanation:O ne explanation for the importance of rankings is that more companies are recruiting MBAs and they are often recruiting at more schools than they had in the past. If companies are increasing the number of campuses where they recruit, they use rankings to help identify schools theyre less familar with, says Michele Sparkman Renz, director of research communications for GMAC. The Financial Times ranking in particular has a much greater non-U.S. mix with two Indian schools in the top 25. Companies hiring employees for their operations in India may use that ranking and others to decide which schools in India would provide them with the best Indian talent.Only a quarter of the recruiters said a schools curriculum or location factored into where they recruited, and only one of ten said the quality of the faculty or the quality of the career services office mattered.MBA hires with the highest starting salariesConsulting gigs are tops in average starting salaries at $93K for MBA hires, $90K for experienced direct-industry hires, and $49K for hires with only a bachelors.New hire salaries in the technology sector are expected to average around $89K and virtually the same with experienced direct-industry hires.Grads who go to work for healthcare/pharmaceutical firms can expect an average yearly take of around $88K.Grads who take positions in the energy/utilities industries are slated to earn an average starting salary of $87K, about $10K more than experienced direct-industry hires. How companies are hiringThe best chance of finding a job is still through someone you knowmore than three-quarters of recruiters said they relied on employee referrals. Nearly as many said they use their companys website as a hiring strategy. The number of companies recruiting on campus increased this year to 68 percent. Only 35 percent reported social media as a hiring tool. What positions are in demandIn the U.S., finance (other than investment banking) jobs are the most in demand (42 percent), followed by marketing/sales positions (39 percent), then business development jobs, then consulting gigs. Are companies sponsoring?Only 15 percent of employers said they were planning to sponsor employees for full-time MBA programs, 25 percent for part-time and 21 percent for executive MBAs.Europe likes MBAs European companies are poised to exceed [by $260] the average annual starting salary that US employers plan to offer MBA graduates. In fact, European employers place a higher premium on MBA graduate hires compared to the salaries they extend to other new hires.[GMAC Corporate Recruiter Survey][Photo: Flickr/ Radiant Guy] Like us on Facebook

These Harvard researchers say open offices are productivity killers

These Harvard researchers say open offices are productivity killers These Harvard researchers say open offices are productivity killers When open offices came into vogue, they were supposed to promote productivity and collaboration among co-workers. And yet recent research suggests they do just the opposite. In an article published by Royal Society, Harvard researchers outline two recent studies they conducted that mean bad news for all the companies that have opted for an open office plan.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders’ magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!Harvard professor  Ethan S. Bernstein and  Stephen Turban  found two Fortune 500 multinationals with intentions to redesign their office spaces.  They monitored workers on floors that were getting a makeover to replace cubicles with more open areas by having them wear sensors to track how many face-to-face interactions they had before and after the transformation.Bernstein and Turban also measured electronic communication - emails and instant messaging - by using information that each orga nization provided to them. The first study took place over three week periods before and after the office redesign, and the second study was conducted similarly but over two eight week periods.Open = badWhat Bernstein and Turban found would likely dissuade any CEO from adopting a more open model.“Contrary to common belief,” they write, “the volume of face-to-face interaction decreased significantly (approx. 70%) in both cases, with an associated increase in electronic interaction. In short, rather than prompting increasingly vibrant face-to-face collaboration, open architecture appeared to trigger a natural human response to socially withdraw from officemates and interact instead over email and IM.”Bernstein and Turban hypothesize that part of the transition to digital communication is a desire to preserve privacy in an environment that’s more exposed. It’s also easy enough in an open office to look over and see that someone’s at their desk to receive an email, they wr ite.Participants in the first study sent 56% more emails to other participants after their office space was converted.   They also received more emails. Results from the second study indicated a similar trend.Meanwhile, executives from the first multinational company reported a decline in productivity after the redesign - the antithesis of what had been intended. When employees went against conventional wisdom and spent less face-to-face time as their office layout became more open, the organization suffered for it.Bernstein and Turban’s research marks a breakthrough in understanding open offices, as they used an empirical model to back their claims instead of relying on subjective surveys or observations as most past studies have done. And so their conclusions signal an even starker reality for the open office. The future of work may not look like broad open spaces after all. Instead, it appears that the companies who took a gamble on the open office design may have lost the bet. So will we all be returning to cubicles, or is remote work the next big trend? Only time will tell. You might also enjoy… New neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happy Strangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds 10 lessons from Benjamin Franklin’s daily schedule that will double your productivity The worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs 10 habits of mentally strong people

How to answer the salary question in online job applications

How to answer the salary question in online job applications How to answer the salary question in online job applications What are your salary expectations? This is the minefield every job seeker must navigate carefully. In salary negotiations, you already know that saying a number out loud based on your salary history can weaken your stronghold if you know you are underpaid. When employers hear a low salary number right off the bat, your final offer is likely to be low too, according to psychological science.Your job is to not shoot yourself in the foot by blurting out your salary of pennies. You can keep mum and dodge the question by giving a salary range, or by stating a high starting salary number to anchor the negotiation if you are having an in-person conversation. But what if you are at the beginning of your job hunt and are filling out a job application on a website? This is the problem that the desired salary question in online job applications raises. You cannot dodge, deter, or explain your reasoning for not answering the question to an automated answering form. Here’s advice on how you can a nswer the salary question without getting accidentally disqualified for not answering the question:Try putting a word over a numberThe fear of leaving the salary question blank is that you may get disqualified by a computer system that will only surface candidates within a certain range or with complete answers. To avoid disclosing your salary history without getting overlooked, you may need to put something down. Salary expert Jim Hopkinson says that one option is giving an answer that does not disclose exactly what you want.“If you are filling out an application on paper, or if the online form allows you to type in whatever  text characters  you want in that field, then leave an open-ended response that defers the answer until later,” Hopkinson writes. If you are applying for an entry-level job, you can answer “entry-level” to the question. If you want to talk about this to a human interviewer, you can delay and say “to be discussed in interview,” or “negotiable,” he advises. If you have to put a number, pick a rangeBut what if this is an online form where you literally cannot proceed until you answer with a number? Then your best bet may be putting a salary range, Ask a Manager’s Alison Green advises. “Do your research and come up with a range based on what comparable positions pay for your experience level and in your geographic area,” she writes.Be careful about what numbers you put in the bottom of your range, however. That is likely to be the number  that human resources will later offer you. “If you give a wide range like ‘$40,000 to $55,000,’ don’t be surprised if you’re offered $40,000, because that’s what you told the employer you’d accept willingly,” she cautions.Above all, the goal is to avoid being taken out of the running for a job before you even have a chance to interact with a human employer. At best, you want to have the salary conversation when the interviewer is at maximum love for you and wants you as their first choice. That way, you can negotiate for the salary you deserve, not the one your previous low salary projects. When you are in the room with an employer who wants you as their next employee, you avoid having to  justify your salary expectations to an uncaring, unfeeling computer algorithm.
